Doxee is an antibiotic rather than anything hormonal: 100 mg of doxycycline per capsule, thirty capsules to the box, from the Indian generics producer Alto. Doxycycline is a second-generation tetracycline, bacteriostatic, binding the bacterial 30S ribosome and halting protein synthesis, with a broad spectrum across respiratory, urinary and soft-tissue organisms.
It is filed under skin here because acne is one of its long-standing prescribed uses. Two traits run through the whole tetracycline class: marked photosensitivity, and irritation of the esophagus if a capsule goes down dry.
