The compound was first described as a pharmaceutical candidate in the 1950s and spent years afterwards circulating as an ingredient in designer supplements before settling into its present place in the steroid catalogue. Structurally it is drostanolone with a 17-alpha methyl group, which is what makes it orally active; it does not convert to oestrogen, and it is not a compound with a gentle reputation.
