Behind the Max-Drol name is a 17-alpha-alkylated oral androgen developed for anaemia and still used for it. It is one of the very few DHT-derived steroids with real oestrogenic activity, produced by binding the receptor directly rather than through aromatase, and it counts among the heavier orals on the liver.
