Aromex is Alpha Pharma's exemestane, thirty tablets of 25 mg in a blistered carton.
Exemestane is a steroidal aromatase inhibitor, and the word steroidal is the operative one. It binds the aromatase enzyme irreversibly instead of competing for it, so that enzyme molecule is out of service permanently and the body must synthesise replacements. Anastrozole and letrozole, the other common inhibitors, work reversibly. Exemestane was developed for hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women; absorption of the tablet improves considerably in the presence of food.
