Chemically it is an aldosterone antagonist. It acts on the sodium-potassium exchange in the kidney, shedding fluid without stripping potassium the way thiazide and loop diuretics tend to, and it carries real anti-androgen activity alongside that. Aldactone is the original brand name for the molecule and RPG produces it as a standard oral pharmacy tablet.
