Dutasteride is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, and unlike finasteride it blocks both the type I and type II forms of the enzyme, cutting the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone more completely. It was registered for benign prostatic hyperplasia and is also used against androgenic hair loss.
Fortune supplies it as soft gelatin capsules of 0.5 mg, fifteen to a pack, swallowed whole rather than divided. The small pack size fits the pharmacology: dutasteride has an unusually long half-life and accumulates in tissue over a period of weeks.
