Nandrolone decanoate is the compound most people mean when they say Deca. It is a 19-nortestosterone ester with one of the longest release profiles in common use, which is why injections of it are spaced across weeks rather than days.

The hormone aromatises weakly, and where testosterone is reduced by 5-alpha reductase into a stronger androgen, nandrolone is reduced into a weaker one - dihydronandrolone - which accounts for much of the difference in how the two behave in the same tissues.
